Airmec Essential Services
Project Overview
Airmec Essential Services needed a website that worked as hard as the business behind it.
The company provides specialist air conditioning, heating, ventilation and maintenance services, working with commercial and residential clients across a broad range of requirements.
Its existing website had become difficult to navigate, difficult to maintain and increasingly ineffective as a source of new enquiries.
The redesign wasn’t simply about giving the site a more contemporary appearance. It needed to organise a substantial range of services clearly, improve search visibility and make it much easier for prospective customers to find what they needed and get in touch.
The Challenge
Airmec offers specialist services that customers often search for when they already have a particular requirement.
That makes clarity particularly important.
Someone looking for air conditioning maintenance shouldn’t have to work through a general company website to discover whether Airmec provides it. Equally, somebody arriving from Google should immediately understand that they have reached an experienced specialist capable of helping them.
The existing website wasn’t achieving that consistently.
01 Make a complex service offering easier to understand
Airmec’s range of services had grown over time, but the website structure hadn’t developed with it.
Important services were difficult to find and individual pages didn’t always provide enough information for either prospective customers or search engines to understand precisely what Airmec offered.
The first job was therefore structural rather than visual.
The website needed a clearer information architecture that could accommodate air conditioning, heating, ventilation, maintenance and related specialist services without becoming overwhelming.
02 Improve the mobile experience
The previous website wasn’t well suited to modern mobile use.
That’s particularly significant for a service business. A potential customer may be looking for help from a phone at work, on site or while dealing with an immediate problem.
Navigation, service information, telephone numbers and enquiry options therefore needed to remain obvious and straightforward regardless of screen size.
The new site was designed responsively from the outset rather than treating mobile as an adaptation of the desktop layout.
03 Turn visits into enquiries
Traffic has limited commercial value if visitors don’t know what to do next.
The previous website wasn’t providing sufficiently clear routes from service information to enquiry.
Calls to action were reconsidered throughout the site so somebody interested in a particular service could move naturally towards contacting Airmec.
Rather than relying on a single Contact page, opportunities to start a conversation were placed where they made sense within the customer’s journey.
The objective was simple:
make it easy for somebody who needs Airmec’s expertise to ask for it.
04 Create a stronger foundation for search
Search visibility was an important part of the redesign.
Airmec’s services lend themselves naturally to specific searches. Customers may be looking for a particular type of installation, maintenance requirement or specialist service, often within a defined geographical area.
The new site architecture therefore gives important services their own clearly focused pages.
This provides more useful information for visitors while giving search engines a much clearer understanding of the subjects and services covered by the website.
Page titles, descriptions, headings, internal links and content structure were considered as part of the website itself rather than being added as a separate SEO exercise afterwards.
05 Make the website easier to manage
A website shouldn’t require a developer every time somebody wants to make a routine content change.
Airmec needed greater control over its own site, so straightforward content management was an important part of the project.
The administration system was organised to make regular updates practical while preserving the structure and presentation of the website.
That gives the Airmec team the freedom to maintain everyday content themselves, while more involved development and technical work can still be handled when required.
The Approach
The redesign was built around three priorities: make the services clearer, make Airmec easier to find and make contacting the company easier.
01 Structure around customer needs
Rather than organising the website around internal company terminology, the structure was reconsidered from the perspective of somebody looking for a particular service.
Dedicated service pages provide space to explain individual areas of expertise properly and create clearer routes through the site.
This makes navigation easier for visitors arriving through the homepage, but it is equally important for somebody arriving directly on an internal service page from a search engine.
Every important landing page needs to make sense as a starting point.
02 Establish trust quickly
For technical building services, credibility matters.
Customers need to know that the company they are considering has the experience and expertise required to undertake the work properly.
The redesigned website therefore makes better use of:
- Industry experience
- Accreditations and certifications
- Client testimonials
- Completed work
- Clear service information
- Professional contact details
These elements aren’t treated as decoration. They provide evidence that supports the claims being made throughout the website.
03 Create clear enquiry routes
Different customers arrive with different intentions.
Some are researching a future project. Others already know what service they need. Some simply want to speak to somebody.
The website accommodates those different levels of intent with clear calls to action and straightforward contact options.
Forms were simplified and important contact information made easier to reach, particularly on mobile devices.
04 Design for performance
The visual redesign introduced a cleaner and more contemporary presentation without allowing design to interfere with usability.
Pages were created to load efficiently and adapt cleanly across screen sizes.
Particular attention was given to:
- Responsive layouts
- Clear typography
- Logical heading structure
- Image optimisation
- Navigation on smaller screens
- Page loading performance
- Accessible content presentation
The result is deliberately straightforward: professional enough to represent the business properly, but never at the expense of finding information quickly.
SEO as Part of the Structure
One of the most significant changes was treating search optimisation as part of the website architecture rather than something applied after the redesign.
Airmec provides a wide range of specialist services, which creates opportunities to answer very specific searches.
Dedicated pages allow those subjects to be explained properly, supported by related content and connected through sensible internal linking.
Local search considerations were also incorporated where geographically relevant.
This approach creates a website that can continue to develop as Airmec adds services, projects and useful information rather than relying on a small number of general pages to rank for everything.
The Result
The redesigned Airmec website is clearer, faster and much easier to use.
Visitors can understand the company’s services more quickly, move directly to the information relevant to them and find an obvious route to enquiry.
The website is also considerably easier for Airmec to maintain internally, giving the team control over routine updates without sacrificing the consistency of the design.
And beneath the visible redesign is a much stronger structure for search — one capable of supporting individual services, locations and future content as the website continues to develop.
A service website has to do more than describe the business. It has to help the right customer find the right service and make the next step obvious.
Results & Impact
Following the redesign, Airmec reported positive changes in both website engagement and enquiries.
The original project data recorded:
- A 35% increase in form submissions and service bookings
- A 50% reduction in mobile bounce rate
- Improved organic visibility for relevant service and local searches
- Stronger presentation of Airmec’s services and professional credentials
As with any website performance figures, these should be considered alongside the period and analytics from which they were measured, but they demonstrate the commercial objective behind the redesign: the website needed to generate opportunities, not simply look better.

The Client’s View
Sometimes the most useful measure of a project isn’t something contained in an analytics report.
It’s whether the website works for the people who have to live with it.
Andrew is a delight to work with. He rescued us after an incumbent designer ceased trading, with a virtually seamless transition. He brought great advice, a delightfully clean and clear approach to graphic design, and a superb content management system that enables us to undertake routine work remarkably easily. What’s more, he’s always there to answer queries, generously sharing his extensive knowledge, or to quickly undertake more complex updates for us.
A Website That Can Keep Working
A service business website is never really finished.
Services develop, search behaviour changes, new projects provide fresh evidence and customers ask new questions.
For Airmec, creating a website that could accommodate that change was just as important as improving the initial design.
The result is not simply a new presentation of the company. It is a platform that can continue to support Airmec’s visibility, enquiries and content as the business develops.
